SCENE + HEARD: Pat Field Tells Us the Key to Her Success: Having a Fabulous Signature, at Fashion’s Night Out Event | Next Magazine

art of what has made New York Fashion Week so exciting in the past few years is its new kick-off event: Fashion's Night Out.  Impossibly thin models, designers, artists and fans of the fashion community all converge in Soho and Fifth Avenue for champagne, schmoozing and plenty of spectacle. And nowhere is that spectacle more bold than at Patricia Field's Bowery boutique, where we dropped by to celebrate this night of shopping excess.

Her store, which has long been a club kid's wet dream closet, was packed to the rafters in heels, wigs and chain shirts of every color. We managed to chat with the famous lesbian designer, best known for her work on the Sex and the City series and movies. What surprised us about Field is how approachable she is. She smiles often and easily and her face tells a lifetime of stories. When we asked who is most likely to fill their closet with her designs, she chuckles and replies instantly, "The show-offs, the theatricals, the otherwise high fashion originals, too." She stands by the idea that, "having as much fun as possible with your signature" is her key to separating herself from the rest of the show ponies in the design community. "My fashion is actually more inspired by my life and my experiences. I've had an interesting life," she summed up.

The night ended as many of Field’s parties do: a twink with powder puff hair and a ripped mesh shirt informed me that the bar had been shut down by the police.  But that didn’t stop the revelry. Field continued to have a good time—something she seems to be a pro at. —Joshua Mayhew
